Knowledge Building
ISKA supports projects working with knowledge and knowledge building on the theme the Cultural Heritage of the Industrial Society.
ISKA's activities are based on a holistic approach. To be able to create growth based on cultural heritage there is a need for well thought-out research-based projects addressing knowledge and knowledge building. It is our conviction that this gives depth and quality, also as regards work with cultural tourism and the culture industry. Knowledge makes it possible for individuals to interpret cultural heritage for themselves, to absorb it and take possession of it.
In order for cultural heritage to become a resource for regional development, there is a need for understanding of the local cultural heritage in the community, and understanding of the possibilities it brings in a growth perspective.
Knowledge building can be carried out by different players in different sectors of the community, by heritage institutions and educational institutions, as well as by associations and business interests. A research programme on the theme of industrial history has been set up at Mid-Sweden University, as a project within ISKA Framework Programme. However, knowledge-building does not take place solely at the level of scientific research. Initiatives in other sectors, within comprehensive schools and upper secondary schools, or within adult education are important and should receive continued backing.
Västernorrland County has well-functioning cooperation between archives, libraries and museums (ABM). Intensified networking and a focus on modern information technology have made the county today one of three ABM regions in Sweden given special attention. Thematic project collaboration within for example ISKA promotes the development of methodology and technology in the ABM sector, as does knowledge building in connection with the Cultural Heritage of the Industrial Society.
The ISKA Framework Programme enables new, intensified collaboration between local research, university-level research and heritage institutions which can contribute new knowledge and exchange of knowledge.
