The Culture Industry

ISKA supports projects aiming to develop new business concepts and operations which can make use of cultural heritage as a resource, for example within the visitor industry, technological development or design.

Central to the work of ISKA is the view of cultural heritage as a resource. Within the cultural heritage sector, the responsible institutions define their mission in traditional humanistic terms: that which it is worthy of conservation shall be collected and conserved, the cultural heritage shall be passed on to the public, within the framework of democratic ideals. When the question of cultural heritage has been put forward as a growth resource, it has principally been with reference to cultural tourism. Within ISKA, we consider it important to include the business community in discussions regarding redefining the potential of the cultural heritage to create growth and regional development.

Several cultural environments connected with the Cultural Heritage of the Industrial Society have potential uses for other activities. Cultural heritage has inherent narratives which can act as sources of inspiration for experience activities, for example drama, music, dance, art and film.

The goal is to create sustainable business development through collaboration with the private sector, companies and non-profit organisations. We wish to encourage start-ups related to the Cultural Heritage of the Industrial Society.
